However, before painting your fireplace, you must remember that certain stone fireplaces— for example, limestone, sandstone, river rock, for example—are less flexible and hence it is difficult to remove once you paint them. Just make sure you have a brick surrounding.

First, empty the place and take a wire scrub brush and remove any dirt, and wash them with a chemical cleaner. Employ safety precautions while cleaning the surface, wear goggles and gloves. Rinse the brick properly and let it dry. Tape off the areas where you don’t want to paint.

Priming the brick

Priming is an essential task in any painting work and it is applied when you are painting your fireplace as well. Use an oil-based primer which will better protect your brick from any future corrosion. Apply primer thoroughly the whole surface.
