3. Burnt out heating element
REASON: If none of the above given points are not the reasons for your geyser tripping main switch, then the possible cause could be burnt out heating element. Most geysers have two heating elements-one at the top and the other at the bottom. When the heating elements fail, they simply burn out and the best way to detect this is when you observe that the water isn’t as hot as it used to be. In some cases, the heating element casing may split up and may expose the electrical components directly to the tank or water. This may result in the short circuit flipping the high limit switch on the geyser and result in tripping of the main switch.
SOLUTION: The only solution here is to replace the heating element altogether.

Seems this 3KW Bajaj instant geyser is having issues. As in, after turning it on, we have good hot water coming and after around 3-4 minutes the MCB switch will trip. My geyser was tripping the main, I then switched that off for 48 hours, got a plumber, switched it on and no tripping but water not getting hot? We then you replaced the element (which had holes in it), thermostat, thermostat pocket and t&p valve and reconnected wires; switched the main back on and nothings happening, there’s sound by the geyser, nor is the main tripping, what could be wrong?

I think there is a leakage and water is dripping to one of the conductors. Initially the thermostat was faulty and as it was replaced, it was not properly fitted and hence a leakage.
Hi we recently had our thermostat replaced in our geyser. It was causing water to not heat and power to trip. There were no tripping issues before this happened. Since the plumbers have replaced the thermostat not even a month later and power is tripping again. They say it’s not the thermostat and it’s not the element (not sure how they checked this?) they say it’s the wiring from the circuit breaker to the geyser. This does not sound right to us as we have been in this house for almost 20 years and never had a faulty circuit breaker??
