    More about Refrigerator making noise

What are the reasons behind “refrigerator making noise” problem?

Noise from refrigerator is not uncommon. Routine operation of your refrigerator will cause some sound. Some of the sounds that you commonly hear from your refrigerator are: clicking sound which is heard when the defrost timer switches on-off, knocking sound is heard during the circulation of refrigerant and humming noise is heard when the ice maker fills with water. But when your refrigerator makes sounds that are not normal, you may require a technician for diagnosis.

Common reasons behind refrigerator making noise problem are:

    • Fault in the condenser fan motor or blade: If your fridge is making loud noise, then condenser fan can be defective. In frost free refrigerators a condenser fan is located near the compressor at the bottom of the fridge. A condenser fan circulates air over the condenser coil to remove heat produced in the process of compression of refrigerant. There are chances that some debris or obstruction might be preventing the condenser fan from moving freely or the fan blades might have worn out or the fan motor is at fault and needs to be replaced.
    • Faulty evaporator fan motor or blade: If your refrigerator is making loud noise that appears to be coming from the freezer section, then the evaporator fan might be at fault. An evaporator fan is located in the freezer section which circulates cool air in the food section of your fridge. There are chances that the evaporator fan blades of refrigerator are worn out or the fan blades have become loose, or the fan motor shaft does not turn freely. Sometimes due to defrost problem of refrigerator ice gets deposited on the fan blade, preventing the blades from moving freely. These obstructions in the free movement of evaporator fan, faulty motor, damaged blades etc. result is refrigerator making noise problem.
    • Worn-out compressor: The compressors of refrigerator are little loud and noisy. But if the noise from fridge become louder than normal, then the compressor might be at fault. If the noise from refrigerator continues to worsen, it is an indication that the compressor is likely to fail in the near future. A faulty compressor is the most probable reason behind refrigeration making noise problem.
    • Clogging in the inter water valve: If your refrigerator makes noise, particularly when the ice maker is filling, the inlet water valve might be at fault. Noise from fridge can be caused by the obstruction in the inlet valve from mineral and scale deposit. In such case when noise from refrigerator is due to obstruction in valve, it needs to be replaced.

The above are some common reasons behind refrigerator making noise problem but there can be other reasons as well.
