More about Excess cooling inside refrigerator

What are the reasons behind “excessive cooling inside refrigerator” problem?

A refrigerator is designed to circulate cool air from the freezer compartment to the food section. But sometime it happens that the fridge becomes extremely cold and starts freezing food.

Excessive cooling inside refrigerator is difficult to fix and most of the time require a refrigerator repair expert to identify the root of the problem.

The possible reasons behind excessive cooling inside refrigerator are:

    • Incorrect thermostat setting: In a refrigerator there is a thermostat that control the cooling. A correct thermostat setting is very important to maintain the right temperature inside the food section of refrigerator. The temperature setting inside the food section of fridge should be between 36 to 39 degrees Fahrenheit. A temperature above this can spoil and rot the food whereas a temperature below this range can cause food freezing. So if the refrigerator is freezing food, check the thermostat settings.
    • Faulty temperature control thermostat: The thermostat in fridge controls the compressor, evaporator fan and condenser fan during the cooling cycle. So when the thermostat gets bad, the refrigerator does not know when to start or stop cooling and under such condition it may not cool or may cool continuously. Rotate the thermostat and listen for a click. Turning the thermostat on-off gives the compressor an indication to start or stop the cooling cycle. When the cooling cycle starts one may listen a power hum which gives a general idea of whether the thermostat is functioning or not. If the click and power hum are heard, the thermostat is probable working fine. If not, then the temperature control thermostat might be at fault. In such situation call a PRO for refrigerator repair.
    • Defective thermistor: There is a small device called thermistor inside refrigerator which works like a sensor and monitors the air temperature inside the refrigerator. It is connected to the temperature control thermostat. When the temperature inside the fridge drop below a certain range, thermistor triggers the thermostat to power up the compressor and start the cooling cycle and vice versa. If the thermistor is defective the thermostat does not know when to power up the compressor to start or stop the cooling cycle. Under such conditions, the fridge does not cool or may cool continuously. In such cases call a technician for refrigerator repair.
    • Over working evaporator fan: An evaporator fan helps in moving cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator or food section. While a broken fan most often leads to a warm food section, an over-packed food section of refrigerator can interfere with cold sensors, causing the fan to overwork. A constantly running fan produces excessive cold air into the refrigerator section and which eventually results in frozen food in the refrigerator.  Do not clutter the fridge as it overloads the compressor and evaporator fan. In such situation call a PRO for refrigerator repair
    • Broken damper: Ina refrigerator, there is a damper at the top of food section. This damper is either an automatic or manually operated door which opens and closes to let cold air into the food or refrigerator compartment. This way a damper control the flow of cold air from freezer to the food section. A broken damper can let too much cold air flow in the food section of fridge that can freeze food. If the damper of fridge is broken, call a refrigerator repair professional and get it replaced.

The above are some common reasons behind excessive cooling inside refrigerator but there can be other reasons as well.

What is included in the service?

The PRO visits client’s site and troubleshoots the problem of excessive cooling inside refrigerator. The PRO looks for all possible reasons behind the issue like broken evaporator fan, broken damper, defective thermostat, faulty control board and defective key components of fridge like compressor, condenser, motor and others. After the actual problem is identified, PRO describes the problem to the customer and suggests a possible repair or replacement for excessive cooling inside refrigerator. On customer consent, the PRO repairs the refrigerator.
