It’s that time of the year when the grass in your lawn is growing and needs to be cut and trimmed to make it look maintained.  But are you able to mow the lawn like a pro? If not then you need not worry since there are many simple tips that can help you with it.  Afterall it is not always possible to call a professional especially for the job. The way you mow your lawn has a huge impact on its appearance and even its quality. The following are some professional lawn mowing tips and tricks that can prove useful.

1. Make sure the blades are sharpened

The first thing you need to do is to make sure that the blades are sharpened.  If they are not, then they may tear the grass leaves and hence the edges will turn brown. This can also create spaces for various organisms to enter, thus creating a risk of diseases.  Torn leaves also lead to increase in water loss, which means you will have to mow the grass more often.

2. Cut often and high

Another thing you need to remember while mowing your lawn is to cut high and often.  Set the blades in such a way that they can keep the grass about 2 to 4 inches tall.  This is important since if the grass is too short, then the roots won’t grow properly and will attract more weeds.  On the other hand, if the grass is too tall then the roots will grow deeper. Also taller grass increases possibility of keeping itself cool and fewer weeds. If you cut grass high then you will need to cut it often as well.

3. Cut the grass early

Another tip you can follow to mow your lawn like a pro is to cut it early in the day.  Morning is the perfect time of the day to mow your grass since at this time, dew dries up and the sun is yet to be at its highest point. This means once you are done, the lawn will be left to dry out quickly.

4. Mow in different directions but at medium speed

Professional lawn moving tips also include mowing in different directions but at medium speed.  Medium speeds help to control the machine and mowing in different directions will help create an even surface where grass doesn’t get pushed to only one side.

5. Make use of clippings

Another fabulous lawn mowing tips that you must follow to become a pro is to make use of clippings.  Let the clippings fall on the lawn as these will decompose quickly and are a good source of nutrients for the lawn.  However make sure they remain only on the lawn and not on roads and sidewalks etc.
