When it comes to oven cleaning you immediately think of commercial chemical cleaners. But you can clean your greasy oven at home in a completely safe, effective, and natural way (no harsh chemicals). All it needs is few household products, some effort and little time. You most likely have everything you need to take on this project already in your kitchen.

Things you need:
  • Baking soda
  • Detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Rubber gloves
  • Scotch brite scrub
  • Cotton cloth
  • Warm water

Remove the racks

Remove the oven racks and other removable item inside the oven and keep them aside. Soak them in a solution of warm water and detergent for few hours. After soaking for hours, grease and stains on the racks should be soft and easy to wipe off. Use a non-abrasive scrub or sponge to clean the remaining tough spots. Rinse with water and dry completely.

Prepare a baking soda paste

In a bowl, mix half a cup of baking soda with tablespoon of detergent and few drops of water. Mix all ingredients in a proper ratio to get a spreadable paste.

Coat oven interior with baking soda paste

Now spread the paste all over the interior surfaces of your oven. Wear rubber gloves to get in the dirtiest corners and crannies of your oven. Coat the whole oven to the best of your abilities, paying attention to greasy areas. The paste will turn a brownish color as you apply it on the greasy surface. Let it rest on greasy surface overnight

Wipe out the oven

In  the rest time of 12 hours, the paste would have done its magic. Take a damp scotch brite or scrub and wipe out as much of the dried baking soda paste as you can. Use a plastic spatula to help scrape off the paste if needed.

Remove the residue with a little vinegar

To remove baking soda residue use white vinegar. Spray vinegar on baking soda residue in your oven (vinegar will react with the baking soda and gently foam)

Final cleaning and wiping
