Tips for cleaning tiles with homemade cleaners (DIY)

Floor Cleaning Tips

Tile flooring and wall covering is a durable choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and areas of the home that might get wet everyday. Over time dirt and moisture gets accumulated on the tiles and grout (Space between tiles) and make them grubby. If not cleaned regularly, tiles can begin to collect soap deposits, mold and bacteria. But with proper care, they can look like new and clean for years. You can choose between cleaning tiles with homemade cleaners or with chemical cleaners available in market.

There are several ways of cleaning tiles with homemade cleaners that are chemical free for your safe home. White vinegar and baking soda can do wonders on grimy tiles. Vinegar is a natural and non-toxic cleaner that safely disinfects and cleans tiles and floor. The acidic nature of vinegar works really well on soap deposit and hard water stains. The only flaw with vinegar is its strong pungent smell. But this smell can be counteracted by mixing a few drops of aromatic essential oil in the vinegar solution before cleaning.

Steps of cleaning tile with vinegar and baking soda:

  1. Mix half cup of white vinegar in 2-3 liters of warm water in a bucket.
  2. Scrub the tile floor and walls to remove dirt and deposits.
  3. If the tiles look clean, rinse with clean water.
  4. But if the tiles and grout remain dirty, clean them with baking soda and water. Sprinkle baking soda on a cloth that has been dampened with hot water or white vinegar.
  5. Rub the sponge or cloth loaded with baking soda over tiles. Clean the grouts with toothbrush.
  6. Finally rinse tile flooring, wall covering and grout with clean water.
