Common problems with your television

TV repair service in Delhi NCR

It is the weekend and your favorite TV show is just about to start.  But suddenly you see that your television is not functioning properly. Not being able to watch your favorite TV program is very annoying. It takes away the fun of the moment.

This write-up brings to you  few common problems with your television and their immediate solutions:

  1. Television turns on and off by itself:

This is a very common problem with televisions. Try the following to solve it:
    a) Unplug the TV from the electrical outlet. Keep it without power for a minute and then plug it back in. Sometimes resetting the system can bring it back to function.
    b) Remove the devices like remote controls/ extenders placed near your television as infrared signals emitted by them might be interfering with the TV.
    c) Change the batteries in the remote control

  2. Picture discoloration and distortion:

Sometimes the TV starts normally but after sometimes the picture gets distorted or discoloration occurs. To solve this switch off the TV and unplug from the socket. Keep it in the power-off mode for a minute and then plug it back and turn on the power. If possible check the TV with another video source like a DVD player or gaming options like play station/Xbox. If the picture is still distorted, this means your television needs repair.

  3. TV has picture but no sound or sound without a picture:

This can be due to simple problems in the sound or picture settings.  So the first thing to do is to check the sound and picture settings of your TV.
You can also check for the following things if your TV has a picture but no sound:
    a) Check other channels as sometimes the uneven sound is the transmission issue and not all channels are affected by it.
    b) Check the volume level from the remote as well as from the TV screen. Sometimes the volume is at the highest from the remote but is not on an audible level from the TV screen setting. The settings are usually located on the back of the corner side of the screen.

If you have audio but no pictures, then you can:
    a) Adjust the contrast/ brightness/ sharpness of the TV
    b) Check if the other channels also have the same issue, otherwise, it is just a transmission issue on the particular channel.
    c) It can also be caused due to an issue in the back-lighting system of the TV. You can turn off all the lights of the house and shine a flashlight on the screen from different angles. If you see any pictures on the screen while doing it, it is a sign that your back-light is defective. This issue can only be fixed by an expert repair person. He will probably replace the capacitor if damaged or change the back-light inverter board of your TV.

  4. A colored vertical /horizontal line is displayed at the one end of the screen:

This can be due to the magnetic waves coming from the speakers or other electronic devices placed near the TV. So move them away from your TV. Unplug the television for a while and then turn it on. See if it works.

  5. The audio and video do not match:

When the video running on your TV does not match the audio that is coming out of it, it feels like you are watching a badly dubbed foreign movie. It ruins your entire entertainment experience. One of the easiest ways to fix this issue adjusting the “audio delay” in the audio settings of your cable box or TV.

  6. Pictures are breaking-up or pixellating:

If the pictures on your TV screen are breaking up or are in big pixels (basically everything starts looking like a group of squares), you probably have a weak signal. Check the entire connection in your house from the connections on the wall to the cable box to the TV, and make sure that all the connections are tightly fitted. If all the connections in your house are right but you are still facing the issue with your pictures on the TV, you must contact your satellite or cable provider.

  7. There is an echo in the audio:

If you hear an echo while using your TV, you may be using both an external sound system and the in-built speakers of your TV. The sound playing from two systems at the same time causes the echo. So, it is better to just mute or turn off the speakers of your TV and use the external sound system as you would have paid extra to get this sound system for a better experience.

  8. Lines radiating from a certain point:

If you notice some lines on your TV screen in a localized area and they keep spreading every time you switch on your TV, it can be probably because of a broken screen or a damaged internal glass panel. The only solution for this is a replacement of the screen. If there are only lines, it will be covered under your warranty. But, in case there is any physical damage to the screen, it will not be covered by your warranty and you will have to pay for it yourself.

  9. The power light is blinking but the TV is still not powering up:

It is usually caused due to power connection problems and the first thing you need to do is make sure if it is a temporary problem. Unplug the power cord and then plug it back in about a minute. if your TV powers up, then it is simply a case of power transmission issues. But, in case your TV fails to power up even after this, your TV probably needs servicing and you need to call in a professional technician.

  10. The pictures are abnormally long or squeezed:

In case the pictures on your TV are abnormally long or squeezed, there is probably a problem with the aspect ratio of your TV. You can simply go to settings and restore the original aspect ratio of your TV by following your TV’s manual or through online help.

  11. The images have outlines around them:

The main reason behind the weird outlines around all the objects and people on your TV is too high sharp. You can reduce the sharpness from the settings of your TV. Some TVs also use edge-enhancement processing that causes weird outlines because they are not required in high-definition sets. In this case, you need to contact a serviceman to fix this problem from the service menu of your TV.

  12. The TV suddenly turns off and the images are temporarily restored on turning it on again:

This problem usually happens in the LED TVs, where the TV suddenly turns off and when you turn it on again everything is normal for a while and then the same thing happens again. The main reason behind this is a faulty processor board causing the back-lights to turn off through the control line. If you are facing this issue, call a technician to fix it and you might also have to get a new processor board or LED strip.

  13. TV is flickering like a flashlight:

If the pictures on your TV start to flicker like a flashlight, it may be a sign of a power surge. Check all the input devices of your TV and make sure that they are properly connected. Also, turn off your TV, disconnect the cord and wait for a few minutes before turning your TV on again. If your problem is solved, then it’s best. But in case, the flickering issue still exists, you need to contact a professional as the probable reason behind it is either the bulbs, the LED light, or the back-light inside your TV. You will need to replace these components if they are damaged in any way.

  14. Half of the TV screen is gray-colored:

If half of your TV screen is gray-colored, then you need to unplug all the media devices connected to it and see if the problem still persists or not. If disconnecting the devices doesn’t help, go to settings and reset your system. But in case, none of the above tricks help, the reason behind the gray screen may be broken or improperly soldered T-con. To fix this, you will need a professional technician as the T-con is located inside the TV and is connected to other components inside.

  15. Dark and dull images:

Many TV sets come with an ambient picture adjustment setting nowadays, meaning the brightness is automatically adjusted as per the ambient lighting around your system. You can simply turn this adjustment off from your settings and adjust the brightness of your TV as per your preferences.

  16. Badly fitted pictures:

Most of the contemporary TVs these days come with an option to adjust the size of the picture as per your preference. If you don’t like the size of the images, you can change it as per your viewing requirements.

  17. TV remote not working properly:

The main reason behind your TV remote not working properly is ailing batteries. Replace the batteries with the new ones and your remote will start working again. In rare cases, if changing the batteries doesn’t work, you will need to get a new remote.

  18. Unable to connect to the internet:

The smart feature of the TV allows you to connect to the internet and enjoy your favorite shows online. If you are unable to connect your TV to the internet, it may be because of two reasons:
    a) You got a new internet connection. Check the router connection and make sure that there is no problem with network reception.
    b) If you are facing connection issues only on certain apps, uninstall the apps and then reinstall them to check the connection.
