What is BIOS?

You hear this term a lot, but always wonder what it actually is? This used to happen with me as well, a lot! Let us know what is BIOS.

BIOS is the Basic Input/Output System of a computer. It is a type of firmware (firmware – the combination of a hardware device and computer instructions and data that reside as read only software on that device). It is built into a computer and is the first software to run when the system is powered on. A BIOS chip is located on all motherboards.

The fundamental purposes of the BIOS are to initialize and test the system hardware components, and to load a boot loader or an operating system from a mass memory device.

When BIOS boots up (starts up) your computer, it first determines whether all of the attachments are in place and operational and then it loads the operating system (or key parts of it) into your computer’s random access memory (RAM) from your hard disk.

A BIOS generally don’t get corrupted on its own.  In case you face a BIOS problem, you can book an expert here.
