A ceiling fan is one of the most commonly used and owned electrical appliances around the world and is something without which most of us just can’t do.  On a hot summer day, there is nothing but a ceiling fan spinning and giving us the much needed cool air.  We all have seen a ceiling fan working but how many of us really have given a thought to how does a ceiling fan work? Not many.  Well there is a proper mechanism with which these appliances work and provide us with fresh cool air. The following is a complete description of how a ceiling fan works:

1. Different parts of a ceiling fan

Before you know how does a ceiling fan work you need to know about the various parts of this appliance.  Some of the basic parts of a ceiling fan include capacitor, electric motor, flywheel, metal arms, paddles or blades, encasement and rotor.  There are certain other electric components which too are involved however these are the main parts you need to know about to know the working of the fan.

Now coming to the working.  Ceiling fans are wired to the ceiling and connected with a wire which controls a switch or remote box on the wall for operating. What happens is that the capacitor of the fan torques up the motor and this allows it to start.  Now electrical current reaches the motors and into the wire coils which are wrapped around metal.  Now a magnetic field develops as the current passes through the wire and it lends a force in clockwise direction.  This changes the electric energy into mechanical energy which further makes the motor coil rotate.  The fan now captures the rotating motion and transfers it to the blades of the fan.

The air slicing resulted by the fan blades is what makes the air pushed in the downward direction. And this air is what we feel when we enjoy the coolness caused by a ceiling fan.  This entire process is responsible for circulation of air throughout the room. In the process, the air that moves down replaces the air that was already present in the room and a circular motion or cycle is created.  Ceiling fans prove to be effective because hot air tends to rise up.  Hot air rises and touches the ceiling whereas fan on the ceiling forces this hot air away from there.

Now that you know the working of the ceiling fan, you will be better able to appreciate the simple action of the appliance and its importance in our day to day lives.  There can be times when any of the parts of the electrical fan may go faulty and the fan may stop working. In such cases, it is best to contact a professional. For ceiling fan installation or repair services, you can reach out to Mr Right
