Oven not heating up? Here are the causes and solutions

An oven is one of the most useful appliances in any home and is one which must be maintained on a regular basis so that it can work properly. If not maintained or serviced, it can start showing certain problems and one of the major ones includes oven not heating up. If the oven won’t heat, it won’t be able to fulfil any of its purposes including baking, grilling and heating etc. This is why it is important that you understand the reason behind it and then try to resolve the issue. 1. A broken heating element

CAUSE: One of the main causes for oven not heating up could be a broken heating element.




2. Problem with the thermostat

CAUSE: If the thermostat of your oven is faulty, then this could be another reason why your oven may not be getting heated.

SOLUTION: Check whether on changing the knob direction, there is any difference in heat or not. If not, then you may need to replace the thermostat.  You can check the thermostat for continuity using a multimeter to double check the problem. Continuity can be checked by inserting wires at both terminals.

3. Problems with the electronic control board

CAUSE: An electronic control board is used to control the functions of almost all modern day ovens.  These control board is used to operate the broil and bake elements. If no fault codes are displayed, then the power to the elements must be checked. However if there is no power to the elements then in that case, the control board must be checked for power.

SOLUTION: This check involves live voltage check and must be done by a professional to avoid any accidents.  If there is no output then the control must be replaced.

4. Fuse problems

CAUSE: If the oven has observed internal fuses or a component or wiring problem then it could have led to a blow out or a fuse.  In this case the problem needs to be corrected.

SOLUTION:  For this you may need to contact a professional who will be able to tell you what exactly caused the fuse to blow and will hence take appropriate replacement steps to get your oven heating again.
