Microwave exhaust fan not working: Causes and solutions

Microwaves are important devices which we need on a day to day basis. This is why if any of their parts becomes faulty or damaged, the appliance may not work properly and this can create problems for us. This is why it is important to resolve any problem that arises with microwaves as soon as possible. In case the microwave’s exhaust fan gets faulty and stops working, then you must first understand the exact reason behind it and then solve the issue. The following are some causes and solutions for microwave exhaust fan not working.

1. Problem with the exhaust fan motor

The first probable cause of microwave exhaust fan not working is an issue with the exhaust fan motor. To find out if the fan motor is at fault, you will have to remove it from inside the microwave and try to turn the blades of the fan by using your hand.  If you find that the blades are not turning freely then you will have to replace the fan motor.  However if they seem free then use a multimeter to test the motor for continuity as well as incoming power.  If the motor has power but still doesn’t run, then you will have to replace it.

2. Problem with the thermostat

Another reason for microwave exhaust fan not working could be a problem with the thermostat.  The thermostat is mainly responsible for monitoring the air temperature and turns the fan on when the need is there.  If it becomes faulty or defective then the fan won’t turn so you can test the thermostat using a multimeter for continuity.  If it doesn’t show any continuity, then you may have to get it replaced by calling a professional or microwave technician.

3. Issue with the main control board

If the main control board of your microwave has become faulty or damaged, then this too can have an effect on the microwave’s exhaust fan.  Before replacing the main control board, you must first check all the wirings and the exhaust fan motor. Only after that should you think of replacement.  In case the exhaust fan motor is not getting any power then the main control board may be at fault. Make sure you take help of a professional to get the main control board replaced as it can prove to be a complicated and risky process.
