How to: Installing home theater for perfect acoustics

seting up home theater

If you’ve invested in a home theater then make sure you invest time into correctly installing home theater to transform the audio experience completely. It is actually quite simple, let’s go over each detail one by one.

A 5.1 home theater system consists of a center channels speaker, 2 front speakers, 2 surround speakers and a subwoofer. If you have a 2.1 home theater system, follow the instructions for front channel speaker and front speakers. For a 7.1 home theater, read till the end we have also covered that!

Front channel speaker of the home theater

The front channel speaker of the home theater is responsible for dialogue/speech. Place it above or below the television aligned centrally for correctly installing home theater, so that it is directly in line with the listening area.

Front speakers (left and right) of the home theater

The placement of front speakers is most important for installing home theater correctly. Place the 2 front speakers (left and right side) at equal distance from the center channel speaker at least 6 feet apart. Ideally, both speakers should at equal distance from the listening area. Also, you can angle both speakers identically towards the listening area.

Surround speakers

Place the surround speakers of the home theater to the side or just behind the listening area on both sides. These speakers should be placed at a height just above the listener’s head (at about 3 feet above ground).

Subwoofer

The subwoofer’s placement can be played around with. There’s no such ideal placement. You can try placing it along the center channel speaker, at the sides of the TV, at the room’s corners etc.

For a 7.1 home theater, place rest of the speakers like the 5.1 system and add the 2 back speakers behind the listening area at equal distances from the surround speakers and at the same height.
