1. Difference in technology
The first and one of the most major differences between SLR and DSLR cameras is that of technology. Digital single lens reflex or DSLR cameras have a reflex mirror which allows digital as well as live optical viewing through the lens which takes the image. On the other hand, in case of SLR cameras, there is only the option of live optical viewing and not digital optical viewing through the lens.

2. Storage specifications
These days, DSLR cameras make use of memory cards and can hence take and store thousands of images. On the other hand, SLR cameras use camera roll which can store just 36 images per roll and this thus sounds like a limiting factor as compared to DSLR cameras. Moreover, in case of DSLR cameras, the images clicked can be erased and new ones can replace them. This feature is not available in SLR cameras.
The memory card present in DSLR cameras can be taken out and inserted in computers etc to copy the images and videos directly. However the same cannot be said about the camera roll present in SLR cameras. Moreover, the images stored in the computers through memory cards can also be printed directly at home through external printers, which again isn’t possible in case of SLRs.

3. Video taking ability
One of the features which are present in DSLR cameras but not in SLR cameras is that of video taking abilities. Most DSLR cameras these days support video capturing, depending upon the model whereas no SLR camera can provide you with this option.

4. Speed of cameras
Another difference that is noted between SLRs and DSLRs is that of the speed. It is one of the most significant differences between SLR and DSLR cameras. Most entry level SLRs have a shutter speed between 1 and 1/1000th of a second. But most modern day DSLRs have a shutter speed of 1/4000th of a second which gives them an edge over SLRs.
5. Price of cameras
As obvious from the above given points, DSLR cameras prove much more efficient and useful than SLRs and hence the fact that they are more expensive is justified. While SLRs are easily available in about $100, good DSLRs are available between the range of $500 and $1000 and even higher.
