6 common problems with your air conditioner

AC servicing

Air Conditioner is one of the most used home appliance. It is a rugged structured but a high quality appliance that requires great care for effective operation. Improper operation with air conditioners results from poor installation, inadequate maintenance, missed services and incorrect service procedures (Followed by the service professionals). There can be many reasons behind the common problems with your air conditioner. Sometimes the faults in the AC operation can even be due to manufacturing defects, but such conditions are rare.

Some common problems with your air conditioner are:

AC not cooling

AC not cooling is the most common problem with an AC. There are many reasons behind this problem. Some common technical reasons that cause this issue are faulty compressor, insufficient coolant, dirty coils, filthy air filter, defective thermostat etc. Sometimes high outside temperature prevents the AC from cooling effectively. Cooling capacity of an air conditioner depends upon room size. A common mistake people make is that they buy an AC based on their budget and not based on the requirement of the room. A small AC in a huge room will always find hard to cool the room in peak summers. The size of the AC should be according to the size of the room.

Refrigerant leakage

If you find that the AC is not cooling in spite of refrigerant top up or charging , it can be due to undercharging (charging less than manufacturer’s specification) or leakage. If there is a refrigerant leakage, then just refilling is not the complete solution. An AC service professional should repair the leakage and then refill the correct amount of refrigerant as specified by the manufacturer (neither over top up nor under top up)

Water leakage from AC

Water leakage from AC is very common problem. It can be due to various reasons like improper installation, clogged rear drains, low outside temperature, faulty condenser or air leakage. In order to study these reasons in detail refer to “5 reasons of water leakage from air conditioner“.

Faulty Sensors

There is a thermostat sensor behind the control panel of the AC. The sensors is placed near the evaporating coil. The sensor measures the temperature of the air in the evaporating coil and alter the cooling based on the conditions in the room. But it happens sometimes that the sensor gets displaced from its position or does not work properly. Because of which the on-off cycle of the AC gets disturbed.

Compressor and fan failure

AC Compressor not working” this is a statement which is heard quite often. Due to frequent on-off of the AC, the compressor and fans get damaged. Other reasons of compressor damage can be electrical disturbance like voltage fluctuation causing overheating and compressor contamination by dust and dirt.

Blocked Drains

The dirt and dust conditions in the surrounding, humidity, presence of pet’s fur can cause AC drain blockage.

Regular service and proper maintenance is very necessary to keep the AC unit function effectively and efficiently throughout years. Neglecting the regular service and care leads to decline in the efficiency of your AC and rise in the utility bills.
