3 Common Air Conditioner Cooling Issues (and Their Easy Fixes)

Like any machine which has moving parts, air conditioners need regular maintenance to deliver maximum efficiency in terms of cooling performance. If the ACs are not take care of properly, they tend to struggle to keep you cool during peak summers.

As a company that knows the ins and outs of home appliance repairs, AC repair and maintenance is one of the most booked services. So, we thought we’d try to break down the most common problems consumers face when dealing with AC maintenance. While physical breakdowns and electrical issues will need to be fixed by a professional, here is a list of 8 most common reasons why ACs land up in problems.

A Faulty Thermostat?

A thermostat is a sensor which detects the current room temperature and automatically cuts off the compressor of the AC once the desired temperature has been achieved. If your thermostat is faulty or clogged for some reason, it would lead to wrong temperature reading and may cut off the compressor earlier than It should…..not allowing the AC to work longer and proving further cooling.

Here’s the Fix

If there seems to be no palpable issues with the AC, chances are the cooling units are also intact. But the thermostat needs to be diagnosed to ensure if it actually is throwing off incorrect readings. This doesn’t require much of a work. Just clean it once and make sure the thermostat is not exposed to sunlight or any external heating element.

Plants or Objects Crowding Your Outer Unit Exhaust

ACs have moving parts and its job is to absorb warm air and humidity etc. from your room and dissipate it outside. It does that through an exhaust system, must like how all vehicles (except electric ones) have an exhaust system. If there is a wall too close to the exhaust or if it’s getting clogged by plants and other stuffs, it can result in efficiency drop.

Here’s the Fix

The outdoor compressor for ACs need adequate distancing to ensure a smooth airflow (just like how we need to maintain social distancing). Keep a distance of at least 2 to 3 feet of space between the compressor and any plants or structures.

No seasonal checkup performed

An inspection by an AC professional can reveal many things that your AC needs and can prevent things before they go worse. Just like your car, your AC also needs a regular checkup, especially before the onset of the season. Ensure the proper checking of the moving parts, as well as the refrigerant, and recharge the system if necessary.
